ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
Contrary to popular belief, root canal treatment undertaken at our Melbourne dental clinic should not cause any more discomfort than that of a regular filling
Traditionally, if the nerve tissue of a tooth became infected the whole tooth would have to be extracted, but with root canal treatment, your natural tooth can be saved.
This root canal treatment (also referred to as endodontics) is used to treat the inner pulp (or nerve tissue) of a tooth if it has become infected. An infected tooth can be a result of a range of factors including:
- Decay deep within the tooth structure
- A large filling irritating the pulp
- A physical impact on the tooth
- Severe periodontal disease
Treating the infected nerve tissue is extremely crucial. If left untreated, this can lead to bone disease and tooth loss.
If you are having pain in your tooth, this could because of an infected tooth and going to the dentist as soon as possible can help you save the tooth from extraction.
